On 3 June 2026 Google published on its official blog an announcement with new tools for site owners. On 31 August 2026 the text was updated with a note: Google writes that it has now rolled out these features for all sites worldwide. They started as a test with some owners in the United Kingdom.

What is new

According to the post, there are three things.

  • A switch in Search Console. With it, the owner decides whether their site appears in the generative AI features of search, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode, and whether it serves as a basis for their answers. Google clarifies that anyone who opts out will not receive traffic and impressions from these features.
  • Data on appearance. New metrics appear in Search Console, including impressions, as well as details of which pages are shown in AI answers and in which countries. Google says it will add more metrics based on feedback.
  • Updated guidance. Google has also published revised recommendations on how content can appear in these features: unique content, clear organisation, a good page experience, quality photos and video.

Google adds that the control will not be used as a ranking signal in regular results outside the AI features.

What is not clear

The post does not state the period covered by the data in the new report. It does not explain in detail how impressions are counted. It does not describe where exactly in Search Console the switch is located. It is also not clear whether opting out affects regular results: Google says only that the control is not a ranking signal. So do not draw conclusions about visibility or traffic before you see the data for your own site.

What to do as an owner

If your property's website has been added to Search Console, there is no need to rush. Three calm steps are enough.

  • Ask the person who maintains the website whether they have access to Search Console and who owns the account. Many small properties do not have one, and then there is nothing to see.
  • When the report appears, write down the first numbers: which pages are shown and from which countries. That way, in a month you will have something to compare with.
  • Do not switch off your appearance in the AI features merely out of caution. The decision is yours, but opting out means exactly what Google writes: you will not receive traffic and impressions from them.

If your property has ISKA Website, it shows the rooms, the services, the gallery and an enquiry form; an enquiry is not a reservation and does not hold a room. Access to Search Console is not part of this description and depends on your Google account.
