What Google announced
On 6 August 2026, the official Google Maps blog described a new capability in Ask Maps: ordering food in a few steps. The user describes what they want to eat and how they will get it. Ask Maps looks for open venues along the route that offer such a dish, and takes into account saved places and dietary needs. After the venue is chosen, the dish is added to a basket, and the user reviews and completes the order.
Orders go through partner platforms. Square and Toast are first. Uber Eats is announced as “coming soon”. Google also writes that it is developing a food commerce protocol together with partners.
What is still not known
The publication says that food ordering is launching in the US, with other countries following over time. Ask Maps itself is also expanding to other countries, in English, but that is not the same as ordering food. There are no specific dates. Nor is availability announced for Bulgaria or in Bulgarian for orders. It is also not described what a venue must do to appear in such answers. That is why any claim along the lines of “you can now receive orders from Google Maps” for a Bulgarian venue is not confirmed, based on the data as of 15 October 2026.
What this means for a venue in Bulgaria
In practice, as of the check on 15 October 2026, almost nothing changes for your day. You have no urgent task to do because of this news, and there is no need to change your till or platform because of it.
The news does show a direction, though: Google lets the guest ask in their own words rather than browse a list. When the answer includes a dish, a time and a price, the source of that information must be clear and correct. Here is what you can do at no cost:
- Review how your venue looks on maps: opening hours, phone number, link to the menu. Out-of-date opening hours are easy to fix and unpleasant for the guest.
- Find all the places where the price of the same dish is visible: paper menu, Facebook photo, a page on the website. If they differ, choose one main place.
- Check whether the menu opens quickly from a phone and whether the dishes are described in ordinary words, not in till codes.
- Follow Google's official announcement about countries. If the feature reaches Bulgaria, the conditions will be clear and so will whether they suit your type of venue.
Do not expect guarantees of visibility. Neither Google nor its partners have promised that a given venue will be recommended.
Where ISKA really helps
If your menu is in several places and every price change means a round of updates, a digital menu at one address solves exactly this small problem. In ISKA Menu, changes are made from the portal or from a phone, they are drafts until published, and the link stays the same. The free plan is without a QR code. This is not connected to Google Maps and is not a way to appear in its answers, but a way for the menu to be the same everywhere you point to it.
What to remember
As of 15 October 2026, the feature is real, announced and limited to the US. No date has been announced for Bulgaria. The sensible step is to put your own information in order so that it holds up in any system.
